The user-friendly Lido Operation Center solution optimizes flight paths, lowers
fuel costs and takes care of pilot briefings.
Qantas has selected Lufthansa Systems to supply its new flight planning system. The
Australian flag carrier is going use the Lido OC (Operations Center) and Lido Briefing
solutions to optimize its flight paths and brief its cockpit crews. The two companies signed
a ten-year contract to this effect in Sydney at the end of July 2005.
"We believe that the Lido OC solution from Lufthansa Systems will help us optimise our
flight planning," says Fiona Balfour, explaining why Qantas chose Lufthansa Systems.
Balfour is responsible for the entire IT department in her role as executive general
manager Qantas Business Services and chief information officer of Qantas.
Dr. Gunter Küchler, managing director of Lufthansa Systems, welcomed the new Lido OC
customer, saying, "We're pleased that Qantas, one of the most successful players on the
Asia/Pacific market, has become another important airline to choose our flight planning
system." He noted that Qantas already has very sophisticated flight planning procedures.
"Nonetheless," he stressed, "we could offer the Australian airline the potential for further
optimization. This highlights the high quality of our value-added systems."
Lido OC covers all aspects of flight planning and follow-up procedures. It draws on its own
database, which allows it to automatically calculate the ideal flight path between two airports
and to generate secure and easy-to-understand briefing documents for each flight. Flightspecific
information, such as navigational and weather data, can be forwarded via Lido OC
to the responsible offices in an airline's operations department. Current data, such as
aeronautical restrictions and the NOTAMS (Notices for Airmen) issued by aviation
authorities, can automatically be taken into account when calculating flight paths. This
allows dispatchers to make fast, reliable decisions on the basis of all the data relevant to a
flight.
Lido OC from Lufthansa Systems combines security and flexibility with cost optimization.
With its modern technology and user-friendly architecture, Lido OC offers Qantas a highavailability,
fail-safe solution for its sensitive flight operations.
Qantas is an airline with a long history. It was founded in the Queensland outback in 1920
and played a leading role in opening up the Australian continent through air travel. With a
fleet of over 200 aircraft and nearly 6000 flights a week, Qantas serves destinations all over
the world.
