Lufthansa Systems first to get certification by EASA for navigation database
As the first service provider in airline flight support Lufthansa Systems has now received
EASA's Letter of Acceptance. This certification enables more than 110 airlines currently
customers of Lufthansa Systems' Lido FMS database to apply for use of the new precision area
navigation (P-RNAV) procedures at their aviation authority. These precision approach and
departure procedures represent a major innovation in flight navigation and will be permitted
from October 2005, provided they are based on certified navigation data as is the case with
Lufthansa Systems.
All approach and departure procedures take place in an airport's terminal airspace. For each
procedure, a corridor of five miles to the left and right of the flight path is currently
reserved. In order to use the available terminal airspace more efficiently, the aviation
authorities will permit precision approach and departure procedures worldwide with a total
corridor width of only two miles.
The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) have defined
mandatory requirements for the production of navigation data which are to be used for the new
flight procedures. The Lufthansa Systems navigation database is in compliance with these
requirements. Developed and continually updated by Lufthansa Systems, the database contains
all the aeronautical information available worldwide. All charts for the Lido RouteManual
and Lido eRouteManual as well as the Lido FMS databases are produced based on this information.
