Hapag-Lloyd Flug has opted for the Lido Route Manual, making it yet another customer to deploy the new, electronically generated navigation chart system from Lufthansa Systems. The contract covers more than forty aircraft and has an initial term of five years.
With Lido Route Manual, the airline benefits from innovative technology for flight operations from the Lufthansa Systems portfolio. The decisive factor for Hapag-Lloyd Flug and Hapag Lloyd Express was that they receive an airline-specific product with a logistics service tailored to their exact customer needs. Lido Route Manual is very different from traditional charts produced using CAD tools. Self-explanatory symbols and clear color coding aid the pilots’ visual thought processes. All the information needed can be found at a glance in the true-to-scale charts.
The charts are generated from the Lido Navigation Database created and maintained by Lufthansa Systems. It contains all the aeronautical data available worldwide. This database is also a cornerstone of other proven IT solutions from Lufthansa Systems' business segment Airline Flight Support, solutions that are currently in successful use at over 110 airlines. Hapag-Lloyd benefits from the high level of automation which has significantly reduced the time necessary for chart production, the integration of amendments and subsequent quality assurance processes.
"We were soon convinced by the clear quality advantages of automatically generated charts. Lido Route Manual fulfils our requirements in every aspect. We can see cost saving potential and a long-term comprehensive concept that leads the way to the paperless cockpit," explained Detlev Schmalstieg, Director Flight Operations at Hapag-Lloyd.
Another important aspect for Hapag-Lloyd is the future-oriented development of Lido Route Manual as a decisive step towards a paperless cockpit. The new navigation charts can either be printed out or displayed electronically, and there is practically no difference between the paper charts and the charts that in the future will appear on electronic displays in the cockpit.
"Looking at it this way, the step towards an electronic display in the cockpit is now just a question of appropriate hardware in the cockpit and approval from the world’s aviation authorities. This will result in cost savings and process simplifications for our customers. We are proud to be the first provider worldwide to offer an integrated portfolio of Flight Support Services and of course to have won Hapag-Lloyd as another customer for this innovative solution“, commented Frank Wagner, Vice President Business Segment Airline Flight Support of Lufthansa Systems Group GmbH.
