Operation of its global WAN by Lufthansa Systems will deliver significant line cost savings for the catering company
Lufthansa Systems today announced that it will operate the global Wide Area Network (WAN) of LSG Sky Chefs and provide all WAN services for the catering company, connecting more than 140 LSG Sky Chef sites worldwide. Outsourcing its WAN operations to Lufthansa Systems will enable the catering company to increase the flexibility of its core business, minimize risks and leverage technical expertise and thus to achieve significant cost savings immediately.
"The increasing globalization of today's markets forces internationally operating companies such as LSG Sky Chefs to look for more economical and efficient ways to operate their wide area networks and communication services," said Stefan Hansen, Senior Vice President Infrastructure Services at Lufthansa Systems. "By outsourcing its WAN to Lufthansa Systems, LSG Sky Chefs will be able to focus all of its resources on its core competencies and achieve cost savings at the same time."
Reliable services are essential to ensure the delivery of meals to passengers. As an international company with 190 branches in 49 countries, LSG Sky Chefs must be able to rely on efficient communication services. This applies to internal processes and the connection between different sites as well as to cooperation with customers, partners and suppliers.
Andreas Dürkop, CIO of LSG Lufthansa Service Holding AG, commented: "The global networking of business processes via flexible communication structures is of critical importance to our enterprise. Selecting Lufthansa Systems as our partner will ensure trouble-free communication both within the company and with suppliers, partners and customers."
LSG Sky Chefs benefits from this collaboration from a technical, economic and operational perspective as the operation of a global WAN for the exchange of information between distributed computers over long distances offers more advantages than maintaining point-to-point connections and sub-networks within established structures. In such a WAN, non-transparent and undocumented processes that make international communication more difficult are a thing of the past.
