Lufthansa Systems today announced that Italian charter airline Eurofly has opted for Lido RouteManual, the electronically generated navigation charts. In addition, the airline will rely on the Lido Operations Center (Lido OC) for route planning, and the FMS Flight Management Navigation Database Services from Lufthansa Systems. Eurofly will thus use the IT service provider's complete aeronautical portfolio, enabling it to coordinate all related eFlight processes as efficiently as possible.
For Eurofly, the special added value is in the integrated application of the Lufthansa Systems solutions. "This enables us to increase the flexibility of our processes significantly. The solutions deliver substantial cost savings, especially in flight handling," said Augusto Angioletti, CEO of Eurofly.
The processes involved in flight preparation essentially comprise route planning, programming the autopilot in the cockpit with the FMS Navigation Database, and using charts which are tailored to a specific flight.
"We are very pleased that Eurofly is yet another customer who has opted for our complete aeronautical product portfolio," said Gero von Götz, Senior Vice President Sales EMEA, Lufthansa Systems. Today, more than 110 customers worldwide use solutions from Lufthansa Systems for flight preparation, including Lufthansa, British Airways, Finnair, Alitalia, Air Canada , Qantas and Emirates.
The charts used with the Lido RouteManual are generated directly from a database which is based on worldwide geographical and aeronautical data. The charts contain current notices and regulations for each flight, approach and take-off procedures for airports, and special features which must be taken into account when flying over a particular region. The high degree of automation considerably reduces the amount of manual effort and thus the production time necessary for creating and updating such charts.
As the central route planning and flight operations tool, the Lido Operations Center (Lido OC) covers all areas of route planning and associated follow-up processes. It draws on its own database, which helps it to automatically calculate the ideal route between two airports and to create safe and easy-to-understand briefing documents for each flight.
Eurofly will also receive customized data for its Flight Management System on a monthly basis. The Lido FMS database contains comprehensive navigation data for the cockpit and important route information regarding altitude or diversion airports in order to optimize flight planning. Once a month, the worldwide aeronautical data is customized to reflect the planned routes of Eurofly's fleet and all aircraft types used by the customer.
