Higher efficiency and flexible route options with Lido OC TFR module
In a drive to further enhance ecological and economic efficiency, Lufthansa Systems is presenting an innovative way for airlines to further optimize their dispatch processes at this year’s Singapore Airshow. Lido Operations Center (Lido OC), the world’s leading flight planning solution, offers a module performing automated checks of a potential routing relative to current air traffic capacity and flow management rules. These highly complex rules also known as traffic flow restrictions (TFR) are set by air traffic control authorities to ensure a smooth traffic flow while at the same time optimizing ATC capacity and security.
Airlines are required to check their routing for a particular flight against the latest ATC rules, a task usually performed manually. Automating this process with Lufthansa Systems’ new Lido OC module is an enormous step forward and enables dispatchers to focus on other important tasks. In addition to the time saved during route planning, Lido OC opens up a host of new route options. As an industry first, the module automatically considers even partly restricted airways, suggesting by-passes where legally permitted, for the most effective combination of airway segments.
“Analyses have shown that the TFR module of Lido OC significantly increases efficiency and reduces fuel burn and costs,” explains Marc Szepan, Senior Vice President Airline Operations Solutions at Lufthansa Systems. “From benchmarks we know that the tool can generate savings of up to two percent in fuel burn. This impressive result is a good example of how we help our customers reduce CO2 emissions and save costs.”
Airlines use a set of company routes, or standard route bundles defined by each carrier for its flights. These company routes form the basis for the actual operational flight plan (OFP) on the day of departure. Before the flight, current parameters such as the weather are incorporated and optimized against each other in regard to costs, flight time or fuel efficiency. The TFR module enables passenger as well as cargo airlines to create company routes that can be checked on a regular basis, or individual OFPs for each flight. Network carriers, regional and budget airlines alike directly save costs and emissions with this latest innovation in airline IT.
