Background
The Payment Card Industry (PCI) implemented a global security standard for credit and EC cards. Since then, all companies working with credit or bank card data have been obliged to comply with these PCI standards. Non-compliance can result in fines and even in the withdrawal of the concession for credit card-based transactions – a major threat to the airline industry which relies so heavily on credit card data within its processes.
In view of the increasing risks and dangers to credit card data, the introduction of this new standard must certainly be welcomed. However, no fewer than 380 detailed rules have to be implemented and followed when complying with PCI DSS.
